Longest Causeway - Qatar-Bahrain Friendship Causeway

No two countries can come so close such that the distance between the two seems very less. Talking about the countries named Qatar and Bahrain which are now connected via Causeway called Qatar-Bahrain Friendship Causeway. This causeway connects the west coast of Qatar to the east coast of Bahrain.

Features:
Construction will start in 2010
The expected time for its completion is four and a half years
Cost of construction is estimated to be around $3 billion
It will be the longest causeway in the world
So far it took 4 hours 30 min by car to reach from Qatar to Bahrain which will be reduced to around 30 minutes
Nearly 10,000 to 12,000 vehicles will cross this causeway everyday
Specifications:
It is a 40km long marine causeway (22km bridge and 18km embankments)
It will boast a 13 metre wide railroad bridge
Costruction:
Its contacts was awarded to KBR, an engineering company head-quartered in Houston, Texas. Other groups involved are:
Qatar and Bahrain Causeway Foundation
Consortium of companies led by French construction major Vinci Construction
German Company HOCHTIEF Construction AG and CCC
Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company
